Beartooth Adventures

For over a decade, Beartooth Adventures has provided snowmobile rentals, sales, and service to the Cooke City area. For snowmobile rentals, they have sleds appropriate for beginners through advanced riders. They also rent any safety gear you might need, including avalanche airbags, transceivers, and radios.

Beartooth Adventures is an authorized Arctic Cat dealership, and they have a broad range of current models in stock. Besides snowmobiles, they also sell a variety of snowmobiling merchandise, including safety gear and clothing. And, they also service and repair snowmobiles, with same-day service in many cases.

Snowmobile Trail Maps


US Forest Service Map

The Cooke City Winter Trail Map provided by the US Forest Service is probably the most useful map for snowmobilers in our area. Besides Cook City area trails, it also shows trails in the Gallatin National Forest and Beartooth Mountains.

Cooke City Chamber Map

The Cooke City Chamber of Commerce site links to a snowmobile trails map. This map is not as detailed as the US Forest Service map, but it does have descriptions of the trails.

Avalanche Information


Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center

The single best source for avalanche information in our area is the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center. Here you can get specific avalanche forecasts for the Cooke City area. You can also get current weather information from Lulu Pass, Fisher Creek, and Monument Peak. In addition, the site has a wealth of educational materials regarding avalanches, including online tutorials and articles.

Friends of the GNFAC

The Facebook page for Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center (GNFAC) has up-to-date posts describing current avalanche conditions near Cooke City and the surrounding areas. Like the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center site, they also provide educational materials and information regarding avalanche safety.

National Avalanche Center

The National Avalanche Center site pulls together avalanche forecast information from a number of forecast centers. Its members work with the American Avalanche Association and the US Forest Service National Avalanche Center to provide comprehensive avalanche information and education.

Snowmobile Clubs and Forums


Upper Yellowstone Snowmobile Club

The Upper Yellowstone Snowmobile Club provides information and support for the snowmobile community in Cooke City. Club members carry out grooming operations on the area's trails, and the club actually owns its own groomer. You can visit their website and their Facebook page for more information about the club and about snowmobiling in the Cooke City area.

Snowest: Montana

The Snowest Montana forum has lots of current information about snowmobiling in the Cooke City and West Yellowstone areas. Plenty of locals post to the forum on a regular basis. The site also has useful links to trail maps, webcams, and more.

Cooke City Sinclair is a one-stop shop for a variety of goods and services. Besides fuel, they sell unique t-shirts and hoodies. You can also pick up Montana and Wyoming trail permits when you stop by.
